WELCOME to Aliento!
Aliento is a Spanish word meaning "breath of life" or life energy. This beautiful ten acre property with its gracious New Mexico style adobe hacienda gives you plenty of room to breathe. The grounds are lovely, featuring large ancient cottonwood and elm trees as well as some fruit trees. There is an arroyo which winds through the property providing the perfect bridle or hiking path. A spacious courtyard with a fountain provides a great place to relax, read or even nap! If you are looking for bed & breakfast style accommodations (or vacation rental) where you can be independent, have a private entrance to your own cozy room, breakfast at your leisure with something from our fully stocked kitchen or maybe just coffee in your room ... then Aliento is the perfect escape for you!! Come enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in traditional eclectic Santa Fe style as captured in our one hundred year old hacienda updated and enhanced for a perfectly memorable visit to Santa Fe - "the city different". A visit you will remember! Aliento is located just 20 minutes south of the Plaza (heart) of Santa Fe, on State Highway 14. This historic and scenic "Turquoise Trail" winds through the old mining towns of Cerrillos and Madrid to the south of us. Aliento is a sprawling authentic adobe hacienda with a castle-like tower. This Casa Grande (hacienda or main house) hosts over 3500 square feet, including the guest accommodations, a common living/dining area and full kitchen. The interior of this one hundred plus year old adobe home features saltillo tile floors with oriental rugs, exposed vigas, kiva fireplaces and rustic Santa Fe style furnishings. The hacienda has three bedrooms plus two suites with kitchens. Each room/suite is decorated in a different style of its own. There are lovely portals (covered porches) all around the central courtyard and buildings, creating the ambiance that is "Santa Fe - the city different". Through arched, carved, inlaid doors, guests have access to the main hacienda (house) for enjoyment of the "common" area. This includes the living room to relax around the television with a VCR, bookshelves stocked with lots of area information or a book to get lost in, all nested around a corner kiva fireplace. As is tradition in a hacienda, the great room also includes the dining area. Here you may choose to eat at the long Spanish dining table, enjoying the period furniture including a Mesquite buffet, a Mexican sideboard and an oak server. The ceilings in this great room are very old and traditional with plastered coved spaces between the wooden vigas (beams). This wonderful room is southeast facing and enjoyed by all for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Off of the dining room is the kitchen which has the feel and look of days gone by. The original vigas and handhewn latilla boards compliment the custom cedar cabinets and underline the warm feeling of this room. A large window over the sink looks out into the main courtyard. The kitchen has all the conveniences, a stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee grinder and coffee maker, toaster and of course a dishwasher. We stock it with breakfast goodies for you to partake whenever you desire. You are free to create your own tasty breakfast and on your own schedule! The San Marcos Cafe, a favorite local restaurant, is within 3 minutes of Aliento, serving breakfast and lunch. A gas station & convenience store is also nearby. An easy walk if you are so inclined. A door to the outside from the kitchen accesses the walled courtyard and barbecue area. The large sandstone picnic table is a perfect early evening gathering place for a glass of wine. Many spend most of their time here with the water fountain, gardens and huge lilac bushes (especially when they are in bloom)!
A conference room is available for meetings of up to twelve. Depending on reservation schedule, this is available for day use only. You may reserve an individual room/suite or the entire hacienda may be reserved for family gatherings or business retreats. The service area, which is a separate room off of the Kiva Room, has a washer and dryer, iron and ironing board and may be used with prior agreement of the Kiva Room guests and management during designated times. The once-upon-a-time, stable building is now the Gallery and etching studio and school for internationally acclaimed etching artists and teachers Norm & Ruth Dobbins. They are the owners of this "you must see it to believe it" escape haven. |
