Aliento is owned and operated by Norm & Ruth Dobbins, nationally and internationally recognized glass artists and instructors in glass art techniques. In addition to B&B style short term accommodations, a separate building houses a working glass studio, glass gallery and classroom facilities. Art glass of different types is shown in the gallery and in the hacienda.
We are located twenty minutes south of the center of Santa Fe, and only a few minutes north of the historic mining towns of Cerrillos and Madrid on State Highway 14 - The Turquoise Trail. Madrid has become an artists colony with a number of shops, galleries and boutiques. Five minutes west is the Eaves Movie Ranch and Bonanza Creek Ranch, sites where many TV and movie westerns have been filmed, including Silverado, Buffalo Girls, Wyatt Earp, and more. The Eaves Movie Ranch is open to the public and features tours, western "shootouts" and more. Golf, hiking, fishing, and horseback riding are also nearby. El Rancho de Las Golondrinas, a living history museum, is fifteen minutes west. The home, personal gallery and foundry of world famous sculptor Alan Houser is fifteen minutes southeast. The historic town of Galisteo, home of the late Burl Ives and current home of the Light Institute (made famous by Shirley MacLaine) is twenty five minutes southeast.
